‘VisionQuest’ trailer: Paul Bettany’s Vision faces Ultron in a twisted MCU mindscape

Marvel Studios unveiled the first trailer for VisionQuest at Disney’s D23 fan event in Anaheim, giving fans their first substantial look at the next chapter of Vision’s story. The series will premiere on October 14, 2026, on Disney+.

Bettany returns as White Vision, the reconstructed version of the android created by S.W.O.R.D. during WandaVision. The trailer places his identity crisis at the centre of the story, with Vision struggling to reconcile the memories and personality of the original Vision with the artificial body and consciousness he currently possesses.

The biggest surprise comes with the return of James Spader as Ultron, the artificial intelligence who served as the central antagonist of 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron. Spader’s return marks Ultron’s first major appearance in the MCU since his apparent destruction, and the trailer suggests that his relationship with Vision will form one of the show’s central conflicts.

The trailer takes the story into an unusual psychological space, with much of Vision’s journey apparently unfolding inside a strange digital mansion representing his fractured consciousness. There, he encounters human manifestations of several artificial intelligences from the MCU, including F.R.I.D.A.Y., E.D.I.T.H., D.U.M-E and U. James D’Arcy returns as J.A.R.V.I.S., while Orla Brady, Emily Hampshire, Henry Lewis and Jonathan Sayer play the other AI characters.

The series also introduces Ruaridh Mollica as Tommy Maximoff, Wanda and Vision’s son, who was originally introduced alongside his twin brother Billy in WandaVision. The character’s presence connects VisionQuest to the wider story established across Marvel’s Disney+ series.

The cast also includes T’Nia Miller as Jocasta, Todd Stashwick as the bounty hunter Paladin and Faran Tahir as Raza, reprising the character he played in 2008’s Iron Man.

VisionQuest is being developed by Terry Matalas, who serves as showrunner after previously working on Star Trek: Picard. The series was initially developed under WandaVision creator Jac Schaeffer before Matalas took over as the project evolved.

The series is positioned as the concluding chapter of the television trilogy that began with WandaVision in 2021 and continued with Agatha All Along in 2024. Its October premiere also places it directly ahead of the MCU’s next major theatrical event, Avengers: Doomsday, which is scheduled for December.

VisionQuest premieres October 14, 2026, on Disney+.
