‘Prahaar’: Rajkummar Rao’s Ujjwal Nikam biopic gets new release date

Rajkummar Rao’s upcoming Ujjwal Nikam biopic, Prahaar, has been postponed. The Avinash Arun directorial which was earlier set to be released in theatres on August 7, will now come out on October 16, the makers announced on Thursday (August 13, 2026).

The film also stars Wamiqa Gabbi, Jaideep Ahlawat, Sikandar Kher, Ashish Vidyarthi, Lalit Prabhakar and Ritvik Sahore. Its teaser was unveiled in June which showed Rao’s transformation into Nikam, as he gave a dramatic monologue, vowing to hang terrorist Ajmal Kasab till his death.

Ujjwal Nikam worked on several high profile cases in his career and helped in prosecuting suspects in the 1993 Mumbai bombings and the Gulshan Kumar murder case, among others. He was awarded the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2016.

Prahaar is written by Sumir Roy with Vishal Tiwari credited for additional screenplay and Dushyant Arora for additional dialogues. It features music by Pritam and lyrics by Amitabh Bhattacharya.

The film is produced by Dinesh Vijan and co-produced by Sharada Karki Jalota and Pooja Prem Patheja.

Meanwhile, Rao will also be seen in another biopic, that of former Indian cricketing legend, Saurav Ganguly in Vikramaditya Motwane’s Dada. Produced by Luv Ranjan, it will be released in theatres on May 14, 2027.
